Frequently Asked Questions
What is there to do on Harris if I am not looking for a busy holiday?
Many visitors come to Harris simply to spend time outdoors. From the cottages, you can walk to several beaches, explore coastal paths and nearby hills, watch wildlife, visit local galleries, or enjoy a round of golf at Scarista, all without needing a packed itinerary.
How close are the cottages to the beaches?
The cottages are located in Northton, within easy walking distance of several beaches, including the famous white shell-sand beaches of the area. Most guests find themselves reaching the shore within minutes, whether for a morning walk, an afternoon swim, or an evening sunset.
What wildlife might I encounter during my stay?
The Isle of Harris is known for its rich coastal wildlife throughout the year. Depending on the season and a little luck, guests regularly spot seals, otters, golden eagles, puffins, dolphins, porpoises, and a wide variety of seabirds while exploring the surrounding landscape.
Is Harris a good base for exploring the Outer Hebrides?
Harris offers a balance of dramatic mountain scenery, world-class beaches, and easy access to neighbouring Lewis. From Northton, guests can enjoy local walks and attractions nearby, while also making day trips to historic sites, traditional blackhouses, art galleries, and the famous Callanish Stones.
Terms and Conditions
General
To improve the facilities within the cottages the proprietors reserve the right to alter or amend the facilities made available at Beachview Cottages.
Occupancy
The occupancy of your property should not extend beyond the number stated in the booking form.
Mostly one or 2 people, a maximum of 3 p. for Grandfathers house and a maximum of 2p. for each tiny house.
Making a Reservation
Contact us to check availability of dates and properties.
Non refundable deposit of £ 500 payable via bank transfer or cheque. Balance of payment to be paid 12 weeks prior to arrival date.
Telephone bookings will be held for 2 days pending receipt of deposit and booking form. Failing which after 2 days, the provisional booking will be cancelled. On receipt of deposit the booking will be confirmed.
Bookings within at least 8 weeks of arrival date are payable in full by internet banking transfer.
Arrivals & Departures
On say of arrival, your house will be ready for you by 4pm. The property must be vacated by 10am on day of departure, unless we have agreed to a different arrangement. Please make your way to 13 Northton Whitehouse on arrival where you will be welcomed and taken to your cottage. Any arrivals after 5pm should be notified in advance.
Cleaning
The property should be left clean and tidy on departure and any damages must be reported prior to departure. Property left in a dirty or inappropriate manner may result in an additional cleaning surcharge. No crockery should be left in the dishwasher.
Dog Policy
Dog friendly, a well behaved dog welcome on request only, Dog Policy: £75 per week, not on sofa’s and chairs. Not in bedrooms/shower rooms, or te be left alone in the house without being caged. One dog is welcome, two dogs might be allowed please ask.
Please bring dog’s own bed/cage and towels.
Fenced in large field 1.5 ha, where the dog can fertilize the trees no bother, apart from the path please. Please would you be so kind to pick up on the grounds and check the grounds before you leave. Please keep your dog on the lead on our premises.
No puppy under a year and no old dogs being incontinent.
Good house keeping fee of £100 is due on arrival to be returned on departure no quibble if the house is left clean as you found it.
We don’t take certain large, barking, heavily shedding, nor aggressive breeds or dogs, so please enquire first.
Please sign and return our Dog Policy, thank you.
When a dog shows up on our premises, without having signed then Dog Policy, or being trouble in any form, the dog must leave our premises.
Smoking
No smoking on premises.
Damages
All damages and losses must be paid in full.
Vehicles/Personal Property
As well as cancellation and curtailment insurance, guests are highly recommended to take out holiday insurance to cover loss or damage to personal effects.
Vehicles, accessories and contents are left at their owners risk.
The proprietors will not be responsible for any loss or damage or any injury to persons or pet not caused through the fault of the proprietor.
Holiday Protection
To minimise the cost and inconvenience of cancelled bookings we would strongly advise you to take out holiday insurance. You may have to forfeit the full cost of your holiday in certain circumstances.
Restriction on Rental
We reserve the right to remove person or persons from the property due to unreasonable behaviour, damage to the property or exceeding the stated occupancy. In this case refund will be at the discretion of the owners.
Adverse Travel Conditions
Where there are ferry/plane disruptions due to (bad) weather conditions or any form of industrial action or other unforeseen circumstances, Beachview Cottages can not be held responsible for non-arrival at the cottages and no refunds will be given.
Cancellation
If you require to cancel a reservation for any reason we must be notified by telephone immediately and cancellation must be confirmed in writing within 5 days. In the event of a cancellation, we will make every effort to re-let the booking and you will be reimbursed were applicable. However we strongly advise that you take out insurance cover to prevent the following additional costs.
If we are unable to re-let, cancellation costs will be incurred as follows:
• More than 12 weeks before booking commences your deposit will be forfeited
• Less than 12 weeks you will be liable to pay the full cost of rental (i.e. deposit & full balance) no refund will be given. Should you wish to change your date within the above period, this will be considered as a cancellation of existing dates and a refund will only be possible in the event of receiving another booking for the original dates.
